Notre Dame University- Shouf Campus, in cooperation with the Rotary Club of Chouf, hosted a seminar on the Passion for Learning by the Lebanese University’s Social Sciences Professor and Rotarian, Dr. Rajaa Ghusainy on October 6, 2016.
An expert in demographics and social change, Dr. Ghusainy attributed the Passion for Learning to institutional and individual factors. Institutionally, passion is contingent upon the many institutional channels it passes through including instructors, administrators and the entire university learning environment, community and atmosphere. “The passion for learning can be passed on,” insisted Dr. Ghusainy, “and it can grow exponentially.” A professor with a positive drive and a love for the material he or she is teaching can inspire passion.
Individually, a sense of constructive curiosity over new knowledge – whether imparted in the classroom or in daily life – sparks the passion for learning. Interestingly, once students find their subject of interest, they find joy in the journey of discovery and develop that inner motivation that continuously feeds and drives this passion. Instructors, advisors, parents and even friends can help students uncover this passion. “Ask questions, be curious and inquire,” Dr. Ghusainy urged the students.
Father Hanna Tayar, Director of NDU-Shouf Campus, agreed with Dr. Ghusainy adding that “the educational journey is enhanced when there is a passion for learning - we at NDU- SC help our students discover that inner passion not just for academics but for life.” Father Tayar then thanked Dr. Rajaa Ghusainy and the Rotary Club of Chouf for the informative and valuable lecture.
